Terms of use.
A small app deserves short terms. These say what Fasih is, what the free plan includes, how Pro is billed, and the few things we cannot promise.
The short version
Who these terms are between
Fasih is operated by Fasih, registered at Islamabad, Pakistan (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between us and you, the person using the app or this site.
By downloading Fasih, creating a subscription, or using this site, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, don't use the app. If you have already paid, see Refunds.
What Fasih is
Fasih is an Arabic vocabulary app for iPhone and Android. It teaches words through the three-letter roots they grow from: a feed of words with their meanings and, with the trial or Pro, each word's full entry, its root family, collections, spaced review, practice modes, reminders and a home-screen widget.
It is a learning tool, not a dictionary of record, a translation service, or a certification. Every entry names the dictionary it came from, but we cannot guarantee that a source is free of error, that a definition suits your particular context, or that a usage is right for a given dialect or register. Do not rely on Fasih for legal, medical, religious, or professional translation.
Using the app
You need to be at least 13 to use Fasih, and old enough to enter a contract where you live. If you are under 18, use it with a parent or guardian's agreement.
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Fasih on devices you own or control, for your own learning. That licence lasts as long as you keep to these terms.
You are responsible for your device, your app store account, and anything done through them. Where the app store's own terms apply to your download (Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement, or the Google Play Terms of Service), those apply alongside these, and the store's terms win on anything they specifically cover.
Free, Pro, and the free day
Fasih has one free plan and one paid plan.
- Free: the word feed with each word's meaning and no daily limit, stopped by a short video ad every few words; sharing words; and your streak. Free for as long as you like, with no card and no expiry.
- Pro: $10.99 a year, or $1.08 a month. These are early-user prices, half of the $21.98 and $2.16 the plans list at; the discount applies while it is offered and a price you have already been charged never changes retroactively. The yearly plan is about 15% less than twelve monthly payments. No ads, full word details, saving words and collections, root families, five practice modes and spaced review, your history and statistics, accent colours and the Kufi and Ruqaa typefaces, the home-screen widget and daily reminders, and export.
- The free day: new users get everything in Pro, with no ads, for one day (24 hours), once per device. No card is required and nothing can charge you when the day ends. The app simply returns to the free plan until you decide to subscribe.
Prices shown here are indicative and include tax where it applies. Your app store displays and charges the price in your own local currency, which may differ at its own conversion and local tax rate.
Paying, and being charged
Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play, on either a yearly or a monthly term, whichever you choose at purchase. We never see or hold your card details. The store takes the payment, issues the receipt, and handles refunds.
Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current term ends, the subscription renews automatically for another term of the same length (a year for the yearly plan, a month for the monthly one), and your store charges you within 24 hours of the renewal date. You can cancel at any time from your store's own subscription manager, and the app links straight to it. See Refunds for how, and for what happens to the rest of a term you have paid for.
If we change the price, we will tell you in advance and your store will ask you to confirm before charging the new amount. A price you have already paid never changes retroactively.
Ads on the free plan
Ads pay for the free plan. Every few words the feed stops for a short video ad served by Google AdMob, and you keep reading once the ad has played to the end or you have watched it for 30 seconds, whichever comes first. If you close it sooner you can watch it again, and if no ad is available the break is a short pause instead. The free day and Pro have no ads.
We choose where ads appear, not what they say. Each ad is the advertiser's responsibility, and anything you open from one is covered by that party's own terms. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent before ads are personalised; Privacy explains what that involves.
What the free plan includes may change as the app does. If a change takes something away from the free plan, we will say so in the app before it takes effect.
Your words are yours
The words you save, your collections, and your review history belong to you. We claim no ownership of them, and nothing you saved is deleted when a trial or subscription ends. Opening your collections and history, and exporting them, are part of Pro. On any plan you can ask us for a copy of your data.
To the extent we hold any of it in order to run the app (to sync it to another device of yours, to back it up, or to see how the app is used so we can improve it), you give us the narrow permission needed to do exactly that, and nothing else. We do not use your words to train models, and we do not sell them. Privacy sets out what we actually hold.
What belongs to us
The app itself, its design, the compiled entries, the example sentences as edited and presented, and the Fasih name and wordmark are ours or our licensors'. Dictionary definitions are attributed to the source named on each card and remain the property of their publishers.
You may not:
- copy, scrape, or bulk-extract the entries or root data;
- republish or resell any part of the content, including as a dataset or a deck;
- use the content to train a machine-learning model;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the app, except where law says you may.
Exporting your own saved words for your own use is expressly allowed. That is what the export feature is for.
Fair use of the app
Don't do the obvious things: don't share one subscription across many people, don't try to unlock Pro features without paying for them, don't attack or overload our systems, and don't use Fasih for anything unlawful.
If you find a security problem, tell us at thecreativejnd@gmail.com before telling anyone else. We will not pursue you for reporting something you found in good faith and did not exploit.
Availability and change
Most of Fasih works offline, by design. The parts that need a connection (purchases, sync, ads, new content) depend on services we don't control, and we don't promise uninterrupted availability.
We will keep improving the app, which means features change. If we have to remove or materially reduce something you are paying for, we will tell you, and if the change makes Pro substantially less than what you bought you can cancel and ask us for a fair refund of the unused part of your term.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: cancel the subscription in your store, and delete the app. There is no retention screen, no offer, and no exit survey. If you have Pro, export your words first if you want to keep them. Deleting the app deletes the copy held on that device.
We may suspend or end your licence if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we stop operating Fasih altogether. Except where you have broken these terms, we will refund the unused part of a paid term if we withdraw the app.
Where our responsibility ends
Fasih is provided as it is. Beyond what these terms and your statutory rights say, we make no other warranty, and in particular none that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any definition, example, or translation is correct or fit for a particular purpose.
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for business losses, or for loss caused by something outside our reasonable control. Where our liability can be limited, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Your statutory rights
If you are a consumer, you have rights under the law where you live (in the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 among others) that these terms cannot take away or reduce. Digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. If it isn't, you are entitled to a repair, a replacement, or a price reduction, and these terms are read subject to that.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms for new features, or because the law changes. The version and date at the top of this page always say which text is current. For a change that materially affects you, we will give reasonable notice in the app before it takes effect, and you can cancel if you don't accept it. Continuing to use Fasih after a change takes effect means you accept the new version.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Pakistan, and disputes go to the courts of Islamabad, Pakistan. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of your own country's mandatory consumer law and may bring a claim in your local courts.
Please write to us first. Almost everything is quicker to fix by email than by anything else.
